Where is assisted living concentrated in Chesterfield County?

Most of Chesterfield's licensed assisted living sits in the northern and western suburbs -- Midlothian, Bon Air and the Huguenot Road and Hull Street corridors -- with a smaller group around Chester near Route 10 and Interstate 95.

Western Chesterfield's growth along Route 288 and around the Swift Creek Reservoir brought newer, larger communities, many with memory care wings. Families coming from Powhatan or Amelia usually start their search in Midlothian for that reason.

Chester and the area around Route 1 lean toward older and smaller homes, and families there sometimes compare options in Colonial Heights and Petersburg as well, because the drive south can be shorter than the drive to Midlothian.

Which agency handles Adult Protective Services and benefits for Chesterfield residents?

Chesterfield shares a combined Department of Social Services with the City of Colonial Heights, so Medicaid, Auxiliary Grant applications and Adult Protective Services investigations for Chesterfield residents run through the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights office.

Even so, Chesterfield is in the Senior Connections - The Span Center service area while Colonial Heights is in the Crater District, so the Area Agency on Aging and ombudsman you call depends on which side of that line the person lives.
